Health Industries South Australia is an agency of the South Australian Government, acting as a single point of contact for health and life sciences companies investing in Adelaide. It’s staffed by business professionals, with experience in areas such as pharmaceuticals, biotech and medical devices. This allows the agency to understand what companies need and provide advice on government regulations, help accessing land and introductions to the local life sciences community, from education and research through to venture capital and industry.
Health Industries South Australia supports companies every step of the way as they establish and grow in Adelaide.
The agency’s industry experts have also worked extensively within government to modernise policies that are good for business, including speeding up clinical trials approval times.
The agency has already succeeded in helping companies take advantage of Adelaide, including helping Pfizer secure a lease on government land and provided support with regulatory obligations. This helped the global pharmaceutical company establish commercial biologic manufacturing in Adelaide.
In October 2014, Marco Baccanti was appointed Chief Executive of Health Industries South Australia. His previous appointments include Executive Director of the Dubai Biomedical Research Park and Managing Director of San Raffaele Biomedical Science Park in Milan.
Mr Baccanti has also served as President of the International Association of Science Parks, and on the boards of the European Commission, World Economic Forum, Confindustria and biotech companies. He has a degree in Industrial Chemistry from the University of Milan and has filed four international patents for new analytical methods.
